Paris is the administrative capital of Ile de France and considered the most populous city in the country and one of the most populous in Europe, with around 12 million inhabitants in Greater Paris (2010). The city is also the economic and commercial capital of France.

Rich in history, monuments, museums, art galleries and lots of culture, Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world. The most famous tourist attractions are the Eiffel Tower, the Pompidou, the Avenue Champs Elysees, the Louvre Museum, the Sacre Coqueu Basilica, the Notre Dame Cathedral, among many others. Around Paris, the Ile de France constitutes several neighborhoods and small towns full of history, monuments and castles. The most famous of them is the castle of Versailles.

The main reference of the city is the Seine River, that cuts practically all the city of Paris. From it are measured the distances of places, and the numbers of the streets. The Seine River also divides the city into two areas: The right bank on the north side and the left bank on the south side. The banks of the River Seine are considered cultural patrimony of humanity.
