Postgraduate

Postgraduate courses abroad are modular.
Completion of each module gives the student certification.
The minimum study period or duration of each module is 6 months.
Generally speaking, postgraduate courses abroad are divided into programs called: Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master.
Despite the name “Graduate”, the programs refer to postgraduate studies.

Prerequisites

To enter all programs, you must have an advanced level of the language, proven by a proficiency exam. The type of exam and the grade will depend on the university and the course chosen. The student's diploma, academic record and, in some cases, work record are also assessed.

Course duration

Postgraduate programs abroad last from 6 months to 2 years. Within the postgraduate programs, the Graduate Certificate lasts 6 months, the Graduate Diploma lasts 1 year, and the Master's, which is the complete postgraduate program, lasts from 1.5 to 2 years. The Master is divided into two types of program: coursework and research. The exact duration of each course varies according to the program, the university and the country of study. Finally, Doctorate programs are also available and last a minimum of 4 years.

Scholarships

In general, universities, colleges and high schools abroad do not offer scholarships. In some cases, full or partial scholarships are only offered for master's and doctoral programs. Scholarships for other types of courses are rare. Isolated cases of grants may occur for high-performance professional or amateur athletes who may represent the educational institutions in sporting competitions. However, in this case the student must contact the educational institution directly. In most situations it is more advisable to look for scholarship opportunities with the Brazilian government, at the institutions responsible, in this case CAPES and CNPQ. In all cases, students can also make inquiries directly with the institutions abroad and argue why they should receive a scholarship.

Recognition of courses by MEC

High school, undergraduate, postgraduate and master's courses taken abroad, regardless of the school or university attended, are not directly recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC) in Brazil. For this recognition to take place, it is necessary for an institution in Brazil to validate the study program carried out abroad. To do this, in most cases, institutions in Brazil will require you to study for at least another 6 months at the Brazilian institution in question. In other cases, depending on the course and the analysis of the academic curriculum, this period of study may be shorter or longer.

Use of materials

For better recognition of the subjects taken abroad, we recommend that students make a preliminary inquiry with the institution they are currently studying at in Brazil or intend to study at in the future to find out about the process of using the subjects. No one is better placed to make a preliminary assessment than the institution where the student will be returning to or starting their studies. Occasionally we can help in this process by contacting the institutions abroad to request the course syllabus.
